Most of these games aren't written in AMIGA-mode (the OS-compatible
side) but, are using the Display libraries in BLITZ mode.
You will have problems with any PAL-only games regardless of the
language. I have seen MANY AMOS, BLITZ as well as Assembler
games/demos which either have garbled NTSC-displays, important
data displayed off the visible screen, lock-ups due to the slightly
faster NTSC video-synch, etc. This was a common problem with
commercial (most in Assembler I assume) games a few years back.
I don't know how many times I had garbled screens or lock-ups.
The solution I came up with is simple: Simply Boot your Amiga in
PAL-mode then run the game/demo and it will work fine. Even now,
I simply expect most games will require PAL-mode and don't even
attempt to use them in NTSC.
This is a real problem though and I hope more authors will cater to
both PAL and NTSC users. It's very simple to add this kind of support
and it makes it SO much easier on the end-user...
For instance, the SideShooter demo automatically resizes the display
depending on whether you're using a PAL or NTSC Amiga. Of course,
I'll probably have to change it for the final release as I believe we
are suppose to be using a fixed-size display 234 pixels high
(Mr. Giark?).
Take care,
GARFIELD
